Bishop’s Message

Dear Rev. Fathers, Permanent Deacons and Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

 

As you will recall, Private Members' Bill C-218, currently at second reading in Parliament, seeks to prevent the scheduled 17 March 2027 expansion of MAiD to individuals whose sole underlying condition is mental illness.

 

The Archdiocese of Toronto, in collaboration with the CCCB Office for Family and Life, has just launched a national, bilingual online advocacy tool under the campaign banner “Help Not Harm.” By registering, individuals can automatically generate a letter to their Member of Parliament and request that it be sent on their behalf, with copies to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice. The tool is available at: https://www.helpnotharmcanada.ca/.

 

Since the CCCB Permanent Council publicly endorsed Bill C‑218 on 4 February 2026, you are invited to consider promoting the Help Not Harm campaign in your parish and to encourage the faithful to subscribe to it as a quick and easy way to support Bill C-218.

Pray for The Most Reverend Bishop Gregory

Lord Jesus Christ you bore our sufferings and carried our sorrows in order to show us clearly the value of human weakness and patience; graciously hear our prayer for the sick especially for your servant and our Bishop Gregory. Touch his mind and heart and fill him with the strength of the Holy Spirit. Free him from anxiety, guilt and distress. Help him to  understand that he is united with you in your sufferings that he may turn to you in faith and love and receive your peace, healing and joy for you are Lord, forever and ever. Amen.

God of compassion, our human weakness lays claim to your strength. We pray that through the skills of surgeons and nurses your healing gifts may be granted to your servant and our Bishop Gregory. May your servant and our Bishop respond to your healing will, expel all afflictions of mind and body; mercifully restore him to full health and enable him to resume his duties and be reunited with us at your altar of praise. Grant this our Lord Jesus Christ you Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
