Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
(1Timothy 4:12)

Many young people … ask: How can we fit into a world marked by so many grave injustices and so much suffering? How should we react to the selfishness and violence that sometimes seem to prevail? How can we give full meaning to life? How can we help to bring it about that the fruits of the Spirit can fill this scarred and fragile world, the world of young people most of all?

(Benedict XVI – World Youth Day, 2008)

ATTENTION TEENS! grades 8-12

NET Encounter Retreat Day Saturday October 24th from 9am-9pm at OLOL Parish Centre.  Theme:  2 Billion People!  Our World has been influenced by many people who have gone before us.  Martin Luther King had a dream and from that equal rights was born.  Terry Fox was determined not to let his cancer trump his passion for life and so he ran for cancer awareness.  Jesus Christ came to die for the Salvation of the world and from that 2 Billion People call themselves Christians today and have transformed the world. In a world that tries to wipe out Jesus’ relevance , how can we begin to understand the magnitude of His sacrifice in our day-to-day lives? Join us and the other youth from the parishes from the North and South Okanagan for an awesome Retreat Day. There is  a live band, fun and games, praise and worship, prayer, friends, mass celebration and guest speaker Fr. We also have some auxiliary members that sometimes help out from other parishes. Each youth ministry co-ordinator takes turn being point for each event with the other youth co-ordinators on the core team.. We try to move the events from parish to parish so that everyone have a chance to have an event in thier community.  The Young Adults in our community volunteer on the core teams with the Pre Teen events.

This year great things have been happening for youth ministry in the Okanagan!  We are so happy to have Sr. Phyllis and Sr. Elaine co-ordinating our Diocesan conference calls about 3 times a year and organizing a Diocesan Youth Ministry Co-ordinator retreat.  It is a great way to communicate with the youth co-ordinators from the diocese.
